Carlisle Infant School

At Carlisle our ethos is ‘love learning, love life’. At Carlisle we want the curriculum to be engaging, challenging and give children the opportunities to develop into adults who want to make the world a better place. A big emphasis is placed on developing children’s social skills and learning behaviours, so that they are able to communicate well with others.

The curriculum at Carlisle is designed to meet the needs of our children in our local community. Prior to starting school our children have a mixture of experiences and opportunities however we have identified the following as building blocks of our curriculum, in order for our children to be successful in learning and in life.

  • To be resilient
  • To communicate clearly and confidently
  • To read with enjoyment and understanding
  • To know you are unique and special and so are others.

We understand the increasing complexities of our ever-changing world and want to prepare our children for this.   We are conscious that our curriculum needs to develop resilience in order that children are emotional intelligent and that they are better equipped to help themselves.

We follow Development Matters (Reception) and the National Curriculum (KS1) at Carlisle and the SACRE agreed syllabus for Religious Education.  Our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure there is progression within and across year groups. The needs of different cohorts of children determine the direction teachers take when planning for the curriculum.

Please see below the full curriculums which shape our Carlisle Curriculum:
